Testing Pool Water

Regular Pool Maintenance:
Weekly:
  • Test Chlorine and pH
  • Clean skimmer baskets
  • Check water clarity
  • Check the water level
  • Check the filter pressure gauge and clean the filter if required
Monthly:
  • Do all of the above and inspect the salt cell and clean if necessary
  • Check Total Alkalinkity and Stabiliser, Salt level and TDS
Quarterly:
  • Test Calcium Hardness

Visual clarity is not enough to determine water quality. Regular testing is essential to confirm water balance, residual sanitizer levels, and other supporting chemicals.

  • Basic water testing kits are available for testing chlorine and pH levels, acid demand and total alkalinity.
  • Using test strips: Water test strips provide a rough guide, please take your water to a pool shop for accurate pool test results.
  • Test Kits : These can come as a 2 in 1, 4 in 1 or a 5 in one and are the most accurate way to test pool water. Ensure that you always following the instructions included in your kit.
  • Free chlorine levels should be maintained at all times, and pH should be within the 7.2 to 7.6 range for chlorine effectiveness.
  • Pool owners should conduct these two simple tests at least once a week and adjust levels accordingly.
  • Monthly testing by a pool service professional is recommended to assess alkalinity, hardness, stabilizer, salt, total dissolved solids, and other factors relevant to the water treatment program.
